Our first pedigree dun calf is born. Philippus Rita was born out in our field after Mum had separated herself away from the herd. On the second day we bought them both into the barn to check Mum after she had been kicking out to make sure that her udder was ok and she was getting used to nursing. Happily, Rita has had lots of milk, the most important colostrum being taken.Protective and interested in Rita and both bonding this morning. JJ did a fabulous job of milking Mum (to make sure the milk was coming out from all four udders) and with help from our neighbours managed to get some extra milk into baby. We are in a newborn bubble.. only eight more to go. The worry is real....
